History of VPUMC
In 1850, people (both Methodist and Baptist) dedicated to sewing the seeds of the gospel of Jesus Christ came together and raised a small one room meeting place. This church was first built near the Atlantic ocean, about one quarter mile from where the church stands now. In 1890 a new church was built to accommodate the growing congregation. In 1954 Hurricane Hazel flooding waters into the sanctuary. Repairs were made and the church continue to strive. During 1969, the Fellowship Hall was added. Then in 1977, padded pews and carpet were installed. In 1994, the front porch was enlarged and a handicap was constructed. Finally in 2009, our new and improved Fellowship Hall was finally finished. We named the new section of our church Wesley Hall. |
